Man City Loanee Kayode Scores Two Minutes Into His Shakhtar Donetsk Debut
Published: April 01, 2018
Nigeria international Olarenwaju Kayode found the net on his competitive debut for Shakhtar Donetsk in their 3-0 rout of Zorya in an Ukrainian Premier League game staged at Slavutych-Arena on Sunday evening.
The Manchester City loanee began the game on the bench and coach Paulo Fonseca decided to give him his debut in the first minute of second-half stoppage time with the scoreboard reading 2-0.
Kayode did not disappoint the Portuguese manager, scoring the third goal of the day off an assist from Dentinho two minutes later.
Zorya goalkeeper Andriy Lunin failed to deal with a corner swung in from the right flank and the Nigeria international had the simple task of chesting the ball into an empty net.
In the process, Kayode registered his name on the score-sheet for the first time since May 25, 2017 when he scored against Salzburg whilst wearing the jersey of Austria Vienna.
The attacker spent the first half of the season at Spanish outfit Girona, for whom he made 12 appearances.
