Akpom Reacts After Making Competitive Debut For PAOK
Published: August 22, 2018Chuba Akpom was delighted to play his maiden game in a PAOK shirt as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Benfica in a UEFA Champions League playoffs at Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica on Tuesday.
The Hale End Academy product entered into the fray in the 87th minute as replacement for Serbia international Aleksandar Prijović.
Pizzi netted a penalty in the first minute of first-half stoppage time to give the Portuguese side the lead but Amr Warda equalized for PAOK with 14 minutes remaining.
Akpom was an unused substitute for Arsenal in Champions League matches against Galatasaray, Marseille and Olympiakos Piraeus during his time with the London club, and made PAOK's 18-man squad for the third qualifying round matches with Spartak Moscow but did not come off the bench.
Writing on Twitter, Akpom stated : ''Debut ✅ Good performance away from home. One last push for qualification. 🙏🏾 #UCL''.
PAOK got to this stage of the Champions League after edging out Basel and Spartak Moscow in the earlier rounds.
