Arsenal Legend Kanu Wants Kelechi Nwakali Back At Gunners ASAP
Published: September 04, 2018
Former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu hopes on loan FC Porto midfielder Kelechi Nwakali will be back soon at his parent club, Arsenal.
The Golden Ball winner at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile has played for three different clubs on loan since he joined the Gunners in 2016 from Diamond Academy, Umuahia.
Two time African Footballer of the Year in 1996 and 1999, Kanu, bared his mind to Goal.com regarding the situation of Kelechi Nwakali, who has been invited for Nigeria's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles on Saturday.
"Very, very good player. I hope you have seen him play, then you will know that he is good,'' said Kanu.
"He played for Nigeria before the World Cup, a friendly game against Atletico Madrid.
"He scored a fantastic goal, so he keeps playing and keeps progressing and keeps growing.
"I keep advising him. I hope one day they will open the door for him to come back to play for Arsenal."
Nwakali who signed a five-year deal at the Emirates aged 18 is yet to make a first-team appearance.
The skillful 20-year-old playmaker also had loans at VVV Venlo and MVV Maastricht in the Dutch leagues.
