Villarreal Pull Off Surprise NO ONE Saw Coming After Naming Ex-Flying Eagles Dazzler In Squad
Published: September 20, 2018
Spanish side Villarreal have pulled off a surprise no one saw coming after naming Nigeria youth international Samuel Chukwueze in their 18-man squad for the ongoing Europa League match with Scottish Premiership team Rangers.
This is the first time that the winger has been named in a match day squad for a competitive fixture since joining the Yellow Submarine in the summer of 2017.
Should Chukwueze step out onto the Estadio de la Cerámica (Villarreal) this evening, he will play with the number 30 kit.
The Diamond Academy product has featured and gone the distance in all the four matches played by Villarreal CF B in the new season.
He was heavily courted by Arsenal after displaying his wares at the 2015 U17 World cup, only for the deal to fall through after the Gunners failed to reach an agreement with the Umuahia based academy.
In their bid to lure Chukwueze to the Emirates, Arsenal had offered him £364,000 gross per year and £1.82 million (equivalent of N855.4 million in Nigerian currency) over the duration of a five-year deal.
Meanwhile, Rangers number nine Umar Sadiq starts on the bench as expected, while the injured Ovie Ejaria misses out.
