Sunderland's Maja Emulates Victor Moses, Abraham; Named EFL Young Player Of The Month
Josh Maja's outstanding performances for Sunderland in League One have been rewarded after he was named the EFL Young Player of the Month Award for August 2018.

The 19-year-old striker scored in all but one of the five matches he featured for the Black Cats in the division last month, he opened his 2018-19 account vs Charlton Athletic before scoring in consecutive matches against Luton Town, Scunthorpe United and Gillingham.

Victor Moses is the first Nigerian player to win the award in December 2009 while wearing the jersey of Crystal Palace, aged 19 years, 20 days.

Moses Odubajo (with Leyton Orient), Dominic Iorfa (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Tammy Abraham (with Bristol City), Bright Osayi-Samuel (with Blackpool) and Hakeeb Adelakun (with Scunthorpe United) have also won the EFL Young Player of the Month award in the past.

Last month, Maja started all the five matches played by Sunderland in the third tier and was only substituted against Luton Town.

The former Manchester City youth-teamer was invited to the Super Eagles get-together in London in March 2017 but could not train with the national team due to club commitments.
