Rohr Wary Of Libya's Defensive Prowess; Lists Two Qualities Of Jamilu Collins
Published: October 12, 2018
Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has declared that his wards won't underrate Libya when the two teams file out in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday.
Nigeria are ranked third in the Group E of qualification for Cameroon 2019 and must win against the Mediterranean Knights.
"We won't underrate Libya. They are very good defensively," the Franco-German tactician said at a press conference attended by allnigeriasoccer.com on Thursday.
"We saw what they did against South Africa in their last game in the AFCON qualifiers. They played in a difficult group in the World Cup qualifiers. They defeated Guinea, they gave a good account of themselves against Tunisia and troubled DR Congo."
"They have the problem of not having the opportunity in their country due to the War in Libya. They are united and want to put smiles on the faces of their fans back home.
"They have a strong defence. Half of the team are playing abroad. Some of them are members of the Chan team.
"Libya are leading the group. We know that it will be a difficult phase for us. Some of them have featured in CAF club competitions. We aren't looking at the FIFA Ranking. We have prepared very well.
"The Super Eagles will approach the game with motivation."
Rohr has hailed Jamilu Collins as a great talent in his latest chorus of praises to the Nigeria defender.
The 24-year-old has been a revelation in the Bundesliga 2 this season for Paderborn 07 putting in solid consistent displays.
The Eagles left back is one of few players to have played almost every minute of his club's campaign to show his importance to the side.
Jamilu Collins' exploits in Germany won him a call up to the Super Eagles team .
Eagles coach Rohr continues to rave about the budding star describing him as a great talent.
"He is a great talent and fits into our style of play," Gernot Rohr said.
