Rohr : Super Eagles Are More Disciplined Than Francophone Teams
Published: November 17, 2018
Coach Gernot Rohr has shared his personal experience since his sojourn to the African soil.
The Franco-German has managedĀ Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and Gabon in his coaching career.
But he singled out Nigeria as disciplined.
"Africa is very special, it is different. We need a lot of discipline, organization and collective spirit."
"Each player must forget his star status at club level. He is a player among other players in our team. He must fight for his country."
"The experience I had in Tunisia, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria and Gabon was very important for me personally."
In Nigeria, it is a little bit different for me. Not only the language, but also they have more discipline than the Francophone countries. That's why am happy to work with this young team."
Rohr's Super Eagles team have a score to settle with South Africa following a 2-0 defeat at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo in the day1 of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in 2017.
The gaffer is preparing his team for the crunch match against Bafana Bafana at the FNB Stadium on Saturday and dismissed any form of revenge mission in his team
"There is no revenge mission on our minds. We converged in Asaba on Monday. I see a big motivation. The boys have been very committed in the training sessions," the coach said.
"Most of the boys didn't play the game. It's a new situation, new game and atmosphere. The team had done a good work since the loss to South Africa. We have nine points and are on top of the Group. We are happy about it.
"The team want to qualify. Nigeria haven't qualified for the last two AFCON. This time around, we want to qualify."
