Arsenal Winger Hints At Representing Nigeria: I Have Admired Iwobi When He Plays For Eagles
Published: November 23, 2018
In an interview with the official website of Arsenal, Ryan Alebiousu has spoken about his Nigerian roots and revealed how Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has been a big influence in his footballing career.
A winger by trade, Alebiousu has been on the books of the Gunners since the age of seven after he was spotted playing in a tournament with local team Lyndhurst.
The Hale End Academy product signed as a scholar from the start of the 2018-2019 season and has been involved in four matches in the U18 Premier League this season.
''I was a right winger then and I still am, although I have played a few
times as right-back or wing-back last season when we played with three
centre backs,'' Alebiousu said.
''I like to dribble past defenders and get crosses and
passes into the box or come inside when I need to. I would say I’m a
little similar in style to Alex Iwobi when he plays on the wing.
''I have
admired and watched Alex play for years and also when he plays for
Nigeria, which is where my parents are from.''
Alebiousu hopes to break into the Gunners U18 starting lineup this season and train with the U23 side.
