Denmark Coach Responds To Reports NFF Are Attempting To Lure Huddersfield's Billing
Published: November 29, 2018The Nigeria Football Federation through their emissaries have opened talks with Huddersfield Town star Philip Billing over switching his international allegiance to the Super Eagles.
Allnigeriasoccer.com first reported eight months ago that the central midfielder holds both Danish and Nigerian nationalities and this
could spark an international tug of war between the two nations, which has now materialized.
It is all but confirmed that Billing will represent Denmark at next summer's European U21 Championship if he does not jump ship by playing for the Super Eagles at the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon.
Denmark's U21 coach, Niels Frederiksen, is very surprised that Gernot Rohr has a made a move for Billing, saying he has not heard anything about possible discussions between the player and Nigeria.
''I have heard absolutely nothing of this," says Niels Frederiksen to Danish tabloid BT.
"But I can not prevent him (Philip Billing, Ed.) from doing it. We are happy with Philip and we are sure he has a very big future with the Danish national team, but we do not mix in such a thing, if it is. It would be anxious to lose him. "
Billing first represented Denmark at U19 level and has won eight caps to date for their U21 team.
