Ex-Arsenal U23 Skipper Ajayi Rules Out January Departure From Rotherham United
Published: January 17, 2019Nigeria international Semi Ajayi is not interested in departing EFL Championship outfit Rotherham United in the January transfer window and has stressed that his priority to help the club avoid relegation.
With eighteen months left on his current contract with The Millers, talks on a new deal have not started, fueling speculation that he could leave the club this month.
''I definitely see Rotherham as my long-term home,'' said Ajayi to Rotherham Advertiser.
''This is the club that gave me my opportunity in the Championship two years ago. They showed even more faith in me by offering me a permanent deal after my loan spell from Cardiff City.
''We got promotion from League One and now I'm playing again in the Championship which has led to an international call-up. I owe a lot to Rotherham and I'm happy to be here.''
The former Arsenal U23 skipper has drawn praise for his performances for Rotherham United as well as the Super Eagles this season.
Ajayi could be heading to Egypt in the summer as part of the Super Eagles squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
