Brighton's Balogun Explains Why He Doesn't Sing With Super Eagles Teammates Ahead Of Games
Published: January 24, 2019Brighton & Hove central defender Leon Balogun has explained why he keeps his cool when his Super Eagles teammates are singing and dancing before national team games.
Born in West Berlin, West Germany, the 30-year-old spent the whole of his career with German clubs before making his international debut against Mexico in 2014.
Having lived in Germany for three decades, Balogun confessed that he does not know most of the Nigerian praise and worship songs.
''The thing is religion. God is a very very big thing in Nigeria and for the players also. In Nigeria, it’s like a tradition, and they start to sing the song,'' Balogun told Omasports TV.
''I don’t know most of the songs from Germany, though I got to know some few words I enjoy it very much.
''Sometimes I get to sing along and clap, but I don’t know the complete songs. I always get hyped as well, and I always enjoy it because I’m a camp guy.''
Barring an injury, Leon Balogun is set to represent the Super Eagles at this summer's Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, his second major tournament with Nigeria in a year.
