Rohr Provides Significant Update On Availability Of Bordeaux's Kalu For 2019 AFCON
Published: May 02, 2019
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has confirmed that Samuel Kalu remains in contention to feature for the national team at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, amid speculation in the media that the winger has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season.
Next week Thursday will make it two months that the Bordeaux number 10 last featured for his Ligue 1 club but the good news is that the player started individual training this week.
Kalu withdrew from the Nigeria roster for their games against Seychelles and Egypt because of a hamstring injury which he's still recovering from.
The former Gent star also had non-sporting problems when his mother was kidnapped which left him exhausted as he had sleepless nights.
In an interview with Goal.com to be published on Friday, Rohr said : ''He's doing better even though this story (the kidnapping of his mother) physically exhausted him because he did not sleep for a week, and he'll be back in the group soon.''
Kalu has played 35 games for club and country in the 2018-2019 season, scoring five goals.
