Peter Rufai Backs Uzoho, Other Super Eagles Goalkeepers For AFCON Duties
Published: May 21, 2019
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai has expressed confidence in the abilities of often criticized Eagles' first choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and the duo of Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi to post great performances at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The Eagles legend who starred at the 1988 and 1994 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco and Tunisia with Nigeria finishing as runners up and winners in both tournaments bared his mind to allnigeriasoccer.com on the expectations from the three goal minders.
"As far as the goalkeeping department is concerned, you don't give up. You keep working hard. We just have to support the goalkeepers that we have now," Rufai stated.
"They are our best hands at the moment. We don't have to over criticize Uzoho, or Ezenwa and Akpeyi and nag over their performances of late or inclusions in the team.
"I believe in them and I know they will impress at the Nations Cup. Success comes with hard work. We just have to support the goalkeepers and the technical crew. I believe they can bring the Nations Cup home," Dodo Mayana enthused.
Enyimba goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai has been placed on standby as the pre AFCON camping gets closer.
