AFCON 2019: Two Out Of These Four Players Will Be Dropped By Rohr
Published: May 21, 2019
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr invited 25 players to camp ahead of the upcoming AFCON tournament in Egypt but he is expected to reduce the list to 23 players on or before June 10.
This means that two players will be dropped from the squad, allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at the invited players, and comes up with top four players who could fail to be part of the traveling team to Egypt.
Kelechi Iheanacho
The Leicester City man is the first on the list after enduring a very difficult season at the King Power Stadium.
Unfortunately for the former Manchester City striker, the invited strikers are in good form as they can't stop scoring goals for their respective clubs.
Henry Onyekuru, Paul Onuachu, Ahmed Musa and Odion Ighalo all have higher number of goals, hence, Iheanacho's chance of being in Egypt is very slim.
Chidozie Awaziem
The young centre-back isn't doing bad with his Turkish club çaykur Rizespor but his chances of making Rohr's AFCON roster remain uncertain due to the formidable partnership between Williams Ekong and Leon Balogun.
Third choice center-back Kenneth Omeruo is enjoying one of his best seasons in Europe, and he can't be overlooked by the national team handlers.
Victor Osimhen
It may look unfair to the youngster striker should he fail to make the final cut considering his productivity in front of goal this season.
The Charleroi best player of the season has scored 17 goals in all competitions but he could be dropped by Rohr as result of intense competition among the invited strikers.
His inexperience will likely have a negative impact on his chances of being among the final 23-man list.
Moses Simon
Rohr's onetime trusted winger is presently out of favour with the manager, no thanks to recurring injuries and the breakout of youngsters including Samuel Kalu and Samuel Chukwueze.
His game-time at club level didn't help situation either, he played only 19 League games (11 as a substitute) during the just concluded La Liga season. He is at the risk of being dropped by Rohr.
