Race For 'Nigerian Golden Shoe' : Osimhen Is The Man To Beat (Top Six Players)
Published: May 23, 2019.jpg)
Victor Osimhen bagged a brace for Sporting Charleroi in their 2-1 road win against Kortrijk at the Guldensporenstadion on Wednesday evening, cancelling out Imoh Ezekiel's opener in the first half before netting the game-winner nine minutes after the restart.
Following his brace in what could be his final game as a Sporting Charleroi player, the Wolfsburg loanee took his tally for the season to 18 goals from 33 appearances, and is the highest rated Nigerian player in the European Golden Shoe rankings with 27 points.
Osimhen has scored one goal more than FC Midtjylland's Paul Onuachu, who is the second highest rated Nigerian player with 25.5 points.
The Danish-based striker has one final chance to overtake Osimhen in the Golden Shoe rankings, on Sunday when the 2018 champions host Esbjerg.
Osimhen and Onuachu are followed by Galatasaray's Henry Onyekuru and FC Luzern's Blessing Eleke who have sent the ball into the back of the net 14 and 13 times respectively this season.
Though Galatasaray and Luzern have one more game to play in their respective leagues, it is mission impossible for the duo in their bid to surpass Osimhen's goal tally.
Trabzonspor's Anthony Nwakaeme and FC Zurich's Stephen Odey are joint fifth with 22.5 points, having scored ten goals each.
