Why FC Midtjylland's Onuachu Was Omitted From Super Eagles Squad Vs Senegal
Published: June 17, 2019FC Midtjylland striker Paul Onuachu could not make his fourth international appearance as the Super Eagles were beaten 1-0 by Senegal in a friendly on Sunday evening.
There is a sickness bug going around at the moment in the Super Eagles camp, with as many as five players, including Onuachu, falling ill.
The absence of Leon Balogun for the friendly against the Teranga Lions forced manager Gernot Rohr to start John Ogu as a central defender; the fourth center back in the squad Chidozie Awaziem had only just recovered from illness.
Explaining why Onuachu was omitted from the Super Eagles squad vs Senegal, FC Midtjylland posted on Twitter : ''We have been informed that Paul is ill, and unfortunately recuperating to get ready for AFCON''.
The Senegalese took advantage of the sickness bug that ravaged the Super Eagles team after beating the three-time African champions 1-0, thanks to Idrissa Gueye's first half winner.
The 25-year-old Onuachu scored Nigeria's fastest international goal in a 1-0 win against Egypt back in March.
