Iwobi Discusses That Sensational Goal Against Chelsea In Europa League Final
Published: June 19, 2019Nigeria had to wait for 64 years before one of their players was able to score in the final of a European club competition but it was worth the wait as Alex Iwobi's goal for Arsenal in their 4-1 loss to Chelsea was the pick of the goals in last month's Europa League final in Azerbaijan.
With Arsenal trailing 3-0, the Nigeria international scored with a right footed shot from outside the box in the 69th minute after Chelsea had failed to clear their lines, two minutes after coming off the bench.
In a recent interview with the Super Eagles Media team, Iwobi explained that he was delighted to score one of the best goals of his career but the winger was unhappy Arsenal lost the final.
''Of course there was mixed emotions to score in that final because it is a big achievement,'' said Iwobi.
''Obviously it was not the result I wanted, if I could change the result for the goal, I would.
''It is one of those goals I just have to cherish in my memories and make me hungry to try and achieve and try to win the Europa League next season.''

Compared to other seasons since turning professional, Iwobi was more efficient in the final third last term, contributing a career-high 15 goals in 51 games for the Gunners.
