Published: July 07, 2019
Odion Ighalo and Alex Iwobi were delighted with the Super Eagles progress to the quarterfinal of the Africa Cup of Nations after knocking out defending champions Cameroon on Saturday evening.
Ighalo and Iwobi were instrumental in the win, with the Shanghai Greenland Shenhua striker scoring in each half and the Arsenal winger netting what proved to be the game-winner after 65 minutes.
''Of course I am happy, the team performance is the main thing. I am happy to beat a strong team like Cameroon and we're looking forward to the next round,'' said Iwobi.
Ighalo added : ''First I want to thank God, I am very happy. It was a very tough game, an important game, we fight from the start to finish, even though when we were losing 2-1 we still believed that we can still score.
''I am happy we scored the goals and we won the game.''
Next up for the Super Eagles is a quarterfinal showdown with South Africa at the Cairo International Stadium, Cairo on Wednesday evening.
''First we need to recover, I am shattered and tired. We will analyze what went wrong in the last game and go into the next game and hopefully we can do well again.
''We didn't expect this result against Cameroon, we never know what to expect in a game of football. Cameroon are able to get goals so are we, we were able to do that and outscore them,'' said the Super Eagles number 18.
