Mikel Quizzed On Team He'd Like To Face In Semifinal; Omeruo Hails Defensive Partner Ekong
Published: July 11, 2019
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi was an unused substitute as the Super Eagles earned a ticket to the semifinal of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations thanks to their 2-1 win over South Africa.
Nigeria will be facing the winner of the third quarterfinal between Algeria and Ivory Coast at the Cairo International Stadium, Cairo on Sunday, July 14.
Asked in the mixed zone by reporters which of the teams he'd like to face in the last four, Mikel stated : ''I don't know, which ever one. I think they are both good teams.
''We are in a good form, we have won again today so either Ivory Coast or Algeria we'll be waiting for them''.
Reacting to the win against Bafana Bafana, Kenneth Omeruo was full of praise for his defensive partner William Troost-Ekong, adding that they were unfortunate to concede in the 71st minute.
''We are happy to have this goal, thanks to my partner Ekong for such a great goal at that point in time.
''We were unlucky with the free-kick but I think we had it under control until that free-kick, so we are happy and we hope to improve in the next game,'' the Chelsea defender said.
