Why Leicester City Flop Slimani Could Be Algeria's Secret Weapon In Clash Of The Titans
Published: July 14, 2019
Super Eagles of Nigeria are up against Algeria in the semi-final round of the ongoing AFCON tournament as they continue their quest for fourth AFCON glory.
After their 3-2 comeback victory over Cameroon in the round-16 stage, many Nigerians now tip Gernot Rohr's men to lift the trophy come July 19.
To achieve such feat, the Super Eagles must first navigate their way past in-form Algeria, who have conceded just one goal from five matches.
The encounter will see the best of Africa players come against themselves as both countries are blessed with top players.
Samuel Chukwueze, Odion Ighalo, Ahmed Musa, Alex Iwobi and Ndidi are some of Super Eagles players who are having a great time in Egypt.
Algeria are equally endowed with a large pool of stars and one of them isĀ striker Islam Slimani.
Though the Leicester City centre-forward isn't having the best of time in Egypt, he's still a great attacking force to reckon with.
He isn't getting huge attention from the media because of his inability to find the back of the net on a regular basis, which is one of the reasons why he could be Algeria's secret weapon against Eagles.
All the attention will be surely on Manchester City's versatile winger Riyad Mahrez, therefore Slimani will be free to play his game without trying to impress anyone.
The 31-year-old has scored 27 goals for the North Africa powerhouse since his international bow against Niger Republic seven years ago.
