Omeruo, Iwobi, Chukwueze, Etebo In Starting XI As Rohr Announces Team To Face Algeria
Published: July 14, 2019
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has announced his starting line-up for Sunday evening's Africa Cup of Nations semifinal showdown against Algeria at the Cairo International Stadium, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The German has opted to field the same set of players that started against South Africa, meaning Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi gets the nod between the sticks.
Jamilu Collins' injury problems are behind him and the SC Paderborn 07 star is set to make his second consecutive start at left-back, Chidozie Awaziem occupies the other fullback position while Kenneth Omeruo lines up alongside William Troost-Ekong in central defence.
Captain John Obi Mikel was hoping to get some game time following his recovery from a knee injury but Rohr has handed starts to Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo and Alex Iwobi in midfield, so the former Chelsea star will have to be content with a place on the bench.
The competition's joint-leading scorer with three goals Odion Ighalo starts ahead of Paul Onuachu, and he is flanked by Samuel Chukwueze and Ahmed Musa.
