'Mahrez Is A Smart & Great Player' - Super Eagles Stars React To 'Annoying' Loss To Algeria
Published: July 15, 2019
Super Eagles players could not hide their disappointment after they lost 2-1 to Algeria in the last four of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday evening.
Levante winger Moses Simon and midfielder John Ogu spoke to reporters in the mixed zone shortly after the game at the Cairo International Stadium.
Simon said : ''We are disappointed because I think we don't deserve it. Mahrez is a smart player and a great player. He decided everything and they won.''
John Ogu added : ''I think it's something we need to learn from, it is very annoying losing in the last minute. I feel we played better in the second half, we were more organized but we played against a good side.''
The three-time African champions will battle Tunisia in the third place playoff on Wednesday, July 17, and they are hoping to bounce back after their failure to reach the final.
Moses continued : ''We are professionals, we have to try to get rid of it and fight back''.
Ogu concluded by saying : ''We need to really go back to work because we want to leave this country with something, the game against Tunisia is very important now for us, we need to get something out of it.
''Everyone is sad but we are looking forward to the next game. We have tried to encourage ourselves.''
