Riyad Mahrez On Scoring Sensational Free-Kick Goal, Facing Tough Nigeria
Published: July 15, 2019Riyad Mahrez's stunning 95th minute free-kick sent Algeria to the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after beating Nigeria 2-1 on Sunday evening.
The Manchester City star admitted that the Super Eagles were a tough nut to crack and was delighted to net the winning goal in injury time.
''It was a strong and tough game against a very good team, both teams were sizing each other up, it was difficult,'' Mahrez said in the mixed zone.
''It was 1-1 and then we had this free-kick and I had the chance to score it and I did it, so I'm very happy.''
Questioned about the hardest match Algeria have played so far in the AFCON 2019, the Algeria captain replied : ''I think it was this game, every game is difficult.
''When you qualify for the quarterfinal and semifinal, it is more difficult.''
''It was 1-1 and then we had this free-kick and I had the chance to score it and I did it, so I'm very happy.''

Mahrez and his Algerian teammates will face Senegal in Friday's final while the Super Eagles battle Tunisia for the bronze medal.
