Rohr Rates The Performance Of Iwobi, Ndidi Etebo; Explains Why Uzoho Lost His Starting Shirt
Published: July 18, 2019
Gernot Rohr was delighted with the performance of his first choice midfielders Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo and Alex Iwobi during the Africa Cup of Nations .
Ndidi and Iwobi were among the high profile absentees not named in the starting line-up in the 2-0 loss to Madagascar but were introduced in the second half, otherwise they started all the matches in Egypt.
Rohr has suggested that Francis Uzoho lost his first team spot because he was largely inactive in the second half of last season while on loan at Anorthosis Famagusta.
''We also saw the three goalkeepers, the third one today and he did well. The only problem he had was that he didn't play in his club this year so he lost a little bit of confidence,'' Rohr said at the post-match press conference on Wednesday.
''Overall I think the strength of my team is the spirit and also the technical commitment to play football with a very young midfield Iwobi, Etebo, Ndidi, I think we are not bad in this department.''

Kaizer Chiefs netminder Daniel Akpeyi was the most used Super Eagles goalkeeper, playing five matches in total, while Uzoho and Ikechukwu Ezenwa appeared in one match each.
