Will Super Eagles Most Improved Player Make An Inevitable Transfer Decision?
Published: August 07, 2019
Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo occupied the third position in the pecking order of center-backs in Gernot Rohr's team during the AFCON 2019 qualifying campaign.
Surprisingly, thanks to his commitment and determination, Omeruo became an untouchable figure in Rohr's starting line-up during the tournament in Egypt.
His AFCON performances, including the match-winning display against Guinea, were so classic that Super Eagles fans couldn't help but ponder how he's progressed from being a regular non-playing substitute to a dependable centre-back at the expense of Rohr's favorite Leon Balogun.
Judging by Omeruo's change in fortune with the Super Eagles, we can rightly put it that the Chelsea star is currently the most improved player in Rohr's team, thanks to his loan spell with La Liga side CD Leganes last season.
The 25-year-old saw much game time during his stay with Mauricio Pellegrino's team which reflected in his fitness and confidence level throughout the six matches he played in Egypt.
After his bronze winning campaign, Omeruo's club future is something that must be settled before the close of the summer transfer window.
It looks inevitable that the former Sunshine star defender will be leaving the West London for good as he has reached the age where regular action is highly needed to maintain his fitness level and his newfound fame under Rohr.
Understandably, the Blues are asking much from Leganes, who have reportedly shown interest in capturing the player on a permanent deal, but it remains to be seen if the Spanish side will eventually dance to Chelsea's tune.

The player is on the verge of leaving Stamford Bridge this summer having failed to make his first-team debut after seven years.
