CD Leganes Interim Coach Gives Reasons Why Omeruo Was Dropped From Matchday Squad
Published: October 28, 2019
Kenneth Omeruo was surprisingly dropped from CD Leganes matchday squad when they faced RCD Mallorca on Saturday though the Nigeria international was pictured undergoing training with his teammates a day before the meeting at Municipal de Butarque.
Leganes interim manager Luis Cembranos lined up with two central defenders in Dimitrios Siovas and Unai Bustinza, a departure from the tactics of ex-coach Mauricio Pellegrino, who usually played with three center backs.
Explaining why Omeruo and Moroccan Youssef En-Nesyri were not in the squad vs Mallorca, Cembranos told reporters post-match : ''I have chosen the best eighteen. It wasn't just the physical, the technical and the tactical. It was also the mental.
''I have tried to select the best to compete and suffer today, to be closer to getting a victory.
“We have taken a step forward, convincing ourselves, believing a little more in what we are doing. It is an important turning point to continue growing as a team. Let's see where we get.''

Siovas suffered an injury against Mallorca and it remains to be seen if Chidozie Awaziem, who came off the bench to replace the Greek defender in the last game, will be picked over Omeruo when Leganes face Real Madrid on Wednesday.
