Liverpool Hero Singles Out Super Eagles Star For Special Praise After Performance Vs Barcelona
Published: November 06, 2019
2005 Champions League-winning midfielder Vladimír Smicer singled out Peter Olayinka for special praise following his excellent performance against Barcelona on Tuesday evening.
Slavia Prague have an outside side of reaching the knockout stage of the Champions League after holding the Spanish champions to a goalless draw at the Camp Nou and Nigeria international Peter Olayinka was clearly one of the most impressive players on parade.
Manager Trpisovsky opted to start Olayinka on the left wing and the Nigerian proved a handful for the Barcelona defenders with his pace and physicality.
Slavia Prague were close to opening the scoring in the 26th minute when Olayinka got rid of Semedo on the left side and passed the ball to Stanciu, whose effort was unfortunately deflected by Masopust over the crossbar.
In quotes carried by the official website of UEFA, former Liverpool star Smicer said : ''Slavia fully deserved their point. They stood firm; there's nothing to be ashamed of.
''It is a pity they did not take one of the chances. Olayinka was excellent, especially in the first half''.
Olayinka has started all the four matches played by Slavia Prague in the group stage of the Champions League and was on target on matchday one against Inter Milan.
