Did Arsenal Deserve A Penalty For Ndidi Handball? Alan Shearer, Tim Sherwood Have Their Say
Published: November 09, 2019
Two Premier League legends Alan Shearer and Tim Sherwood have insisted that referee Christopher Kavanagh was right not to award a penalty to Arsenal during the first half of the ongoing game against Leicester City after Wilfred Ndidi handled the ball in the area.
The Nigeria international missed his clearance and his trailing hand prevented Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from breaking the deadlock, an incident that the Video Assistant Referee failed to spot.
Speaking on Premier League Matchday Live, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sherwood said at the half-time interval : ''Not for me, I am not sure what Ndidi can do there, he's done well to get back in but I am not sure where he can put his arm, it definitely hits his arm there but that's a great chance.''
England legend Shearer added : ''He's actually falling down there, isn't it, so there is nothing else he can do with his arm other than to what you do when you fall down, you got to put your arm down there to protect it to stop that fall but that is a wonderful chance''.
In the second half, Aubameyang thought he had opened the scoring for Arsenal but it was ruled out for offside before Jamie Vardy's 68th minute opener.
Ndidi has started the last nine matches played by the Foxes in the top-flight, scoring once vs Newcastle United.
