Nigeria-Eligible Defender Celebrates Maiden England U17 Call-Up By Scoring For Arsenal
Published: November 10, 2019
Nigeria-eligible defender Daniel Oyegoke celebrated his maiden call-up to the England U17 National Team by scoring for Arsenal as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Fulham in an U18 Premier League match staged at Motspur Park, Surrey on Saturday afternoon.
The right back is one of two new faces named to the latest England U17 roster announced on Friday and he's in contention to play his first game for the Young Lions at that level when they tackle Denmark on Friday 15 November at Alfreton.
Oyegoke has earned caps for England at U16 level, all of them nonbinding games, and the upcoming internationals against the Danes and Czechs are friendly matches, so he remains eligible to play for the Golden Eaglets.
Sixty minutes into the contest against the Cottagers, he rescued a point for the Gunners when he nodded home with Miguel Azeez involved in the build-up to the goal.
Prior to yesterday's meeting against Fulham, the first-year scholar had played five games in total for Arsenal U18s without getting on the scoresheet.
Oyegoke, who went the distance against Fulham, joined Arsenal from Barnet two years ago.
