Exclusive: Chelsea Beat Norwich City To Signature Of Exciting Nigerian Prospect Abu
Published: November 10, 2019
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Chelsea beat Norwich City to the signature of exciting Nigerian right back Derrick Abu.
It has come to light that the Canaries had been in pole position to sign the promising defender before he was acquired by the Blues at U11 level.
While Norwich City were willing to offer Abu a contract straight away, he underwent trials with Chelsea for six weeks before he was signed by the Stamford Bridge outfit.
The defender was spotted by a Chelsea scout when he was playing for local club Coezer FC at a tournament in Spain.
Abu has shown his versatility at Chelsea as he is comfortable playing as a midfielder and wing-back apart from his right back role.
The 15-year-old models his game after former Barcelona star Dani Alves and Real Madrid's Marcelo, and also watches Liverpool young star Trent Alexander-Arnold because of his crossing abilities.
He has made progress over the years at Chelsea and has been tipped to make his debut for the U18 team before the end of the 2019-2020 season.
