'The Pressure Is High Because Pepe Scored A Lot Of Goals' - Osimhen On Comparisons With Ex-Lille Star
Published: November 15, 2019
Expectations peaked following Victor Osimhen's move to Lille with fans expecting the Super Eagles rising star to fill in the boots of Nicolas Pépé, who joined Arsenal for a club record fee in the summer transfer window.
The Nigeria international has been off to a pretty good start at Lille, scoring 9 goals in 17 appearances from all competitions before reporting for international duty.
Osimhen has handled the pressure to deliver the goals amidst hefty comparisons with Pepe.
''For me, I think the pressure is high because Pepe scored a lot of goals for them and of course everyone wants me to replace him,'' Osimhen told
''He is a great player, to be compared with him is something spectacular and exceptional so I came there to write my history and to help the club and get the goals of course.
''To get to the objective in which the club has set for itself, I am really good to go and I think I can do even more better.''
