100th Premier League Appearance : Ndidi Will Not Break A Nigerian Record Held By Chelsea Legend
Published: November 22, 2019
Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is set to make his 100th Premier League appearance for Leicester City when they tackle Brighton & Hove on Saturday, November 23, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
If the Foxes number 25 steps out onto the American Express Community Stadium, he will be aged 22 years, 11 months and 7 days and won't have the honour of being the youngest Nigerian player to reach a 100-game milestone in the Premier League.
Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel became the youngest Nigerian player in history to make 100 appearances in the Premier League when he started against Arsenal on February 7, 2010, aged 22 years, 9 months and 16 days, a record that still stands to this day.
Chelsea-owned winger Victor Moses came close to breaking the record during the 2013-2014 season while on loan at Liverpool, making his 100th appearance in the Premier League against Sunderland on September 29, 2013, aged 22 years, 9 months and 17 days.
Celestine Babayaro, Alex Iwobi, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Shola Ameobi all made their 100th appearance in the Premier League before they turned 24.
With 298 appearances to his name, former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace striker Ameobi holds the Nigerian record for the most Premier League appearances.
