Arsenal And Manchester United Legends Watch Osimhen In Champions League Clash Vs Ajax
Published: November 27, 2019
Two Premier League legends were spotted in the stands during Lille's 2-0 loss to Ajax Amsterdam on matchday five in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars, who is Ajax Amsterdam Director of Football, and ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, the CEO of Ajax, attended tonight's clash at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Nigeria international Victor Osimhen returned to Lille's starting line-up after serving a one-game domestic ban in the 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain last Friday.
The visitors needed less than two minutes to open the scoring as Hakim Ziyech's left footed shot beat Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan after a sideways pass from Dusan Tadic.
In the early exchanges, Ajax Amsterdam defenders kept Osimhen quiet by starving him of service and when he managed to get the ball he had his back to goal.
The French side had a good chance to equalise four minutes into the second half but Ikoné missed the target after brilliant work from the Nigeria international.
Quincy Promes scored in the 59th minute to extend Ajax's lead and put them on the brink of qualification for the knockout stages.
On 91 minutes, Osimhen nearly scored his third goal in the Champions League but he flicked the ball past the post after a fine pass from Ikone.
Lille, who have crashed out of Europe, will travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on matchday six.
