Mourinho In Attendance As Flying Eagles Hopeful, Oluwayemi Impresses Vs Liverpool U23s
Published: December 07, 2019
Respected Portuguese football tactician Jose Mourinho was among the 169 spectators at Hotspur Way on Friday as Tottenham Hotspur U23 team thrashed Liverpool 4-0 in a Premier League 2 fixture.
Spurs U23s coach Wayne Burnett handed starts to goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi and defender Timothy Eyoma, while a third player of Nigerian origin Jubril Okedina watched proceedings from the bench for the entirety of the game.
If the match report published by the official website of Tottenham is anything to go by, Mourinho would have been impressed with the performance of Oluwayemi.
''In the end, we ran away with the game having scored four without reply but it could have been an entirely different story had Oluwayemi not kept out Hill’s strike at the end of the first half,'' Spurs wrote as the key moment in the match.
''The forward had been picked out in the box by a searching cross from the right and, with his first touch, deftly directed the ball towards the far corner of the goal, but Oluwayemi managed to produce the necessary reflexes to tip it away from danger.''

Born in London, Oluwayemi, who comes from a family of goalkeepers, has committed his international future to Nigeria despite having caps for England at U15 and U16 levels.
This season, the 18-year-old glovesman has played 7 games in total for Tottenham Hotspur's youth teams in the U18 Premier League, Premier League 2 and UEFA Youth League, posting three shutouts and conceding 10 goals.
