Sotona Nets A Beauty But Manchester United 18s Fall 3-1 To Stoke City
Published: December 07, 2019
Manchester United's Nigerian striker, Deji Sotona was on target for the club's U-18s in their 3-1 loss to Stoke City in their league encounter at the Trafford Training Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The goal was his first since scoring against Liverpool in an U-18 Premier League game as far back as August 31st.
With 31 minutes on the clock at Carrington, Sotona kick started an incisive run from the left channel which ended with him driving into the opposition box and whipping into the bottom corner from a very tight angle, drawing his team 1-1 with the effort.
He came close to grabbing a brace in the closing stages when he spun brilliantly in the area but saw his powerful shot go inches wide.
His compatriot Shola Shoretire who started alongside him had a rather hushed game and was replaced by Mark Helm after 72 minutes.
The result meant the young Red Devils remain eighth on their 12-team league table with 14 points, and are next in action on Friday, December 13th when they face Lincoln City in the FA Youth Cup.
