FIFA Year-End Ranking: Nigeria Avoid Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt In World Cup Draw
Published: December 19, 2019
FIFA on Thursday, December 19, 2019 published the year-end ranking of national teams and the Super Eagles have remained static on the log compared to their position the previous month, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Gernot Rohr's side still occupy the 31st position in the standings and are the third best ranked team in Africa.
Nigeria being the third best country in Africa has a significant bearing on the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification – CAF Second Round as they are one of the seeded teams and will be in pot one when the draw is held at the Nile Ritz-Carlton in Cairo, Egypt on January 21.
The nine countries the Super Eagles cannot face in the second round of the World Cup qualifiers are Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Ghana, Egypt, Cameroon, Mali and Democratic Republic of Congo as they are among the top ten ranked African nations and will be seeded for the purposes of the draw.
Our rivals to book a ticket to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations - Benin, Sierra Leone and Lesotho - are 84th, 118th and 139th respectively in the world.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 20 February 2020.
