Iwobi Commended By Everton Legend Duncan Ferguson For Staying On The Pitch After Pulling Hamstring
Published: December 22, 2019Everton legend Duncan Ferguson has commended Alex Iwobi for staying on the pitch despite pulling his hamstring during the opening minutes of the match against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.
The Nigeria playmaker was among five Hale End Academy graduates that started the game at Goodison Park, the others being Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, but he had to be hauled off just ten minutes into the contest after failing to shake off a hamstring injury.
Iwobi is expected to undergo further tests in the coming days to determine the severity of his injury and whether or not he faces a spell on the sidelines.
Ferguson, who was unbeaten in regulation time in his four matches in charge as caretaker coach, was asked to provide an update on the fitness of Iwobi shortly after yesterday's match.
And he told Everton TV : "It's a hamstring. It shows you the character of the man, he pulls his hamstring and he stays on the pitch. So we all know it's a hamstring and he stays on.."
A deadline day signing from Arsenal, Iwobi has been involved in 20 matches this season, scoring 2 goals and has logged 1,384 minutes in all competitions.
