Samuel Chukwueze Joining Chelsea Would Be A Good Move For Both Parties
Published: December 24, 2019
Samuel Chukwueze's reputation has grown in leaps and bounds since his breakout year for Villarreal in 2018, and has become the toast of the elite European clubs.
The Super Eagles dazzler had long hit the ground running in the Spanish La Liga, and the Yellow Submarine are already wary of losing their prized asset in the January transfer window, with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and lately Chelsea having explored ways of poaching him away from the Estadio de la CerĂ¡mica.
He has carried his sterling performances onto the international scene for Nigeria, and after helping them strike bronze in this year's AFCON tournament is in the running for CAF's African Youth Player of the year.
And yet this term, he has done just enough with his end product in the final third to keep Villarreal abreast in the division's top half, prompting the latest of his admirers, Chelsea to start considering a bid this winter.
Manager Javier Calleja have tried to ward off the speculations and interests swirling around the starlet and is seemingly defiant he will be staying on, but the move could come good for both parties if we explore certain facets.
On the La Liga side's gain, he was acquired from Diamond Academy for just 500,000 euros, but they will likely not receive anything less than 60 million euros from the Blues if they really pull out all stops for his signature. Undoubtedly, Chukwueze is worth every of the said price tag.
And he will arrive with a big profile at a club like Chelsea where he will be battling for spots with two aged players at the wrong end of 30 and a handful of academy graduates who had only benefited from the club's earlier transfer ban.
Perhaps, Lampard feels the addition of a young player with a big mentality, and of course a key national team player is the best for his youthful side, and then will ensure he is eased straight into action in the Premier League.
The transfer business of the new year will throw up more interesting stories, but we feel a switch to the Premier League befits one of the most talented players Nigeria has seen in a long while.
