Wigan's Nigerian-Born Defender Obi Has The Last Laugh Against Liverpool In Premier League Cup
Wigan Athletic's Nigerian-born defender Emeka Obi showed Liverpool what they are missing after scoring against the Anfield side in a Premier League Cup clash at Lancashire FA County Ground on Friday night.

The towering center back was heavily linked with a switch to the European champions in 2016 but it is unclear if the deal was completed as he was not named in an official matchday squad for their youth teams before ending up at Wigan Athletic in 2018.

Wigan were 2-0 up at the break courtesy of goals from Obi and Divin Baningime, before Olly Crankshaw scored a third for the Latics with 13 minutes left on the clock.

On nine minutes, the tall and physical center back used his height to good advantage as he powered home a header from Luke Robinson.

Obi came close to scoring his second of the game on 74 minutes but his close range effort was diverted over the bar by Dixon-Bonner.

He made his senior debut for former club Bury in a Checkatrade Trophy match against Morecambe on August 30, 2016, aged 15 years and 86 days.
