Leicester City Midfielders Back Iheanacho To Step Into The Shoes Of Jamie Vardy
Published: January 24, 2020
Leicester City midfielders Youri Tielemans and James Maddison are backing Kelechi Iheanacho to step into the shoes of talismanic striker Jamie Vardy.
The former England international is a doubt for The Foxes upcoming match against Brentford in the Emirates FA Cup after he was forced off injured during the first half against West Ham on Wednesday.
Should Vardy fail to recover, Iheanacho has been earmarked as his replacement, just as was the case in the two recent matches against West Ham and Newcastle United in the Premier League.
"We created a lot of chances from everywhere, from our wingers, and from Kelechi who came on. Everything was positive,'' Tielemans was quoted as saying by Leicester Mercury after the win against West Ham.
"Jamie has his type of play, but Kelechi performed very well. He has his qualities of course, but he fits very well in the team, and we have to play with his qualities. Kelechi is a very good striker and we can use him for the rest of the season.
"We know Jamie is maybe a bit different."

Maddison added : "He’s been the best striker in the Premier League this season, so to lose him was a big loss, but Kelechi’s also been in great form whenever he’s played over the past few months.
"That just shows the quality and the depth in the squad we’ve got here at the minute."
