'It's What We Need, The Next Step' - Chelsea's Uwakwe Speaks On Teammate's Loan Move
Published: January 31, 2020
Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe is delighted to see his Chelsea teammate, George McEachran move to Dutch club SC Cambuur in the January transfer window, saying it's a good step in his career.
Uwakwe, himself, had been linked with a temporary departure from Stamford Bridge this month, but interest from Championship clubs seems to have cooled as there has not been any fresh update regarding the future of the versatile midfielder, hours leading up to the close of the winter transfer market.
"It’s what we need, the next step. I’m happy that a couple of the boys get to go out and experience that," Uwakwe said to Chelsea's official website.
"Obviously it does decrease the impact on the development team but that’s what we want, we want players to come up from the Under-18s and start playing more minutes with the Under-23s.
"We want to see players making the next step on their journey."
Barring a last-minute development, Uwakwe is set to feature for Chelsea U23s when they trade tackles with Leicester City in a Premier League 2 clash at Aldershot tonight.
