To mark the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 2020 (Monday, April 6), Super Eagles central defender William Troost-Ekong spoke about the importance of football in his life.
Now a seasoned Nigeria international, the former Tottenham Hotspur youth-teamer revealed that football gave him an opportunity to travel to different countries and meet people with diverse backgrounds.
Ekong has played for teams in England, Netherlands, Belgium and Norway and was with the national team for the Olympic Games, World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations held in Brazil, Russia and Egypt respectively.
"Football is my passion and I consider myself lucky to have done my job. Being an athlete is a lifestyle I am dedicated to," said Ekong to Udinese's official website.
"Competition and the constant search for new ways to improve myself, perform better and win have become my life goals
"Sport is also the reason why I had the opportunity to meet many people with a mentality similar to mine, from different backgrounds.
"It gave me the opportunity to travel around the world, to get to know different cultures and discover other lifestyles.
"Football has been a part of my life for many years and has given me several fantastic moments. These high-level sports experiences will have a positive impact on the rest of my life. "
