'The Club Tried To Get Giroud But Failed' - Ex-Liverpool Starlet Adekanye On Game Time At Lazio
Former Liverpool starlet Bobby Adekanye has disclosed that Lazio's failure to sign France World Cup winner Olivier Giroud in the winter transfer market opened a chance for him to get more playing time at Lazio.

Two days after the close of the January transfer window, the Ibadan-born winger came off the bench to score his first professional goal as Lazio thrashed SPAL 5-1 in the Serie A, something which might not have happened if Giroud was signed by the Biancocelesti.

Adekanye's maiden goal would endear him to the Lazio fans who encouraged him by creating a song for him.

"I just got here and they've already made me a song," Adekanye said to Elf Voetbal.

"Just before I made my first goal, the winter transfer market was closed. The club had tried to get Olivier Giroud, but had failed. That weekend I got the chance."

Before stepping out onto the Olimpico di Roma turf, Adekanyre received encouragement from Europe's leading marksman Ciro Immobile.

"Just before the game, Ciro came to me and said: Bobby, today you are going to score! I scored.

"The fans started to sing: We don't need Giroud, because we already have Bobby . Goosebumps. I could not believe it.

"Lucas Leiva came to me in the locker room. You already have a song of your own! "he said in surprise. That day of my goal was the best day of my career,'' he concluded.

Adekanye played for the youth teams of Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona, PSV and Liverpool before inking a first team contract with Lazio last summer.
