Inter Battle Serie A Rivals Botafogo For Signature Of Obi Mikel
Published: April 18, 2020
According to reporting by Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo, Brazilian Serie A club Sport Club Internacional have joined the race to sign former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel.
Botafogo have been mooted as a possible destination for the Chelsea icon but the two parties have not reached an agreement on the financial terms, and the Rio de Janeiro club now face competition for the central midfielder's services.
Exactly a month ago, Mikel mutually terminated his contract with Trabzonspor over coronavirus fears.
The 32-year-old had fifteen months remaining on his contract with the Turkish Super Lig table-toppers before quitting the club.
Including the optional year for the 2021-2022 season, Mikel gave up wages totaling 3.375 million euros (N1.42 billion) after cancelling his deal with Trabzonspor.
Last season, Inter finished seventh in the Serie A while Botafogo ended up in fifteenth place.
