'At The Moment It Is Unofficial' - Dessers Awaiting Confirmation From KNVB On Top Scorer Award
Published: April 27, 2020
Heracles Almelo marksman Cyriel Dessers says he is still waiting for official confirmation from the Eredivisie organizers, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) on the top scorer award for the 2019-2020 season.
The Super Eagles hopeful ended the season which has been cancelled with 15 goals, same as Feyenoord captain Steven Berghuis who played 24 league games, two less than the Nigerian.
"I have not received official confirmation yet," said Dessers to Heracles official website.
"It is not that I only came first on the last day with some undeserved goal. No, I've been there since late November.
"In the meantime, a few wrongful goals have been rejected and I am still standing there, together with Berghuis. I am happy to be there."
Dessers achieved the target he set for himself before the start of the season, being involved in 20 goals, and he is convinced he would have scored more goals if the season had been concluded.
"I am sure that a few more would have been added. I wanted to be involved in twenty goals for the season, divided between goals and assists. So it is fine in that area," the Heracles number nine concluded.
Dessers' highest number of goals in a single season was 29 which he scored for NAC Breda over the course of the 2016-2017 campaign while playing in the Dutch second-tier.
