Awaziem Reveals He Grew Up Supporting Real Madrid, Chelsea; Has Transfer Update On Porto's Yahaya
Published: April 29, 2020
In an interview with the Super Eagles Media Team via Instagram, Chidozie Awaziem has revealed that he supported Real Madrid and Chelsea when he was growing up.
Awaziem joined Spanish club CD Leganes on loan from Porto for the 2019-2020 season and has played 18 matches in La Liga, partnering international teammate Kenneth Omeruo at the heart of defence in some of the games.
"My dream club is Real Madrid; I supported them growing up, as well as Chelsea," said Awaziem.
"My all-time legend is Sergio Ramos, every team in La Liga is tough and it's great playing with Kenneth Omeruo in Leganes, we communicate well on the pitch, mostly in Pidgin English and cover each other."
Awaziem has found it difficult breaking into the first team of Porto since he was acquired by the club five years ago, leading to loan spells at Nantes, Rizespor and Leganes.
The 23-year-old acknowledged that many young Nigerian players struggle in Portugal and has tipped ex-Golden Eaglets dazzler Musa Yahaya for the Porto exit door in the coming months.
"Alampasu was with the first team without playing, Nwakali I just don’t know, it depends on the club, the player, the coach, maybe the coach is not comfortable with him.
"Yahaya is in the B team, I was there with him, I had to reach A team standard. Yahaya is still there playing but I think he will leave soon."
Awaziem was involved in all the matches contested by the Super Eagles at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with the exception of the third place playoff against Algeria which he missed as a result of suspension.
