Heracles Chief Gives Two Reasons For Rejecting Bid For Eagles Hopeful Dessers In January
Published: May 01, 2020
Heracles Almelo General Director Rob Toussaint has confirmed that the club rejected a bid for Super Eagles invitee Cyriel Dessers in the January transfer window.
An unnamed club thought to be Celta de Vigo made an undisclosed bid for the Belgian-Nigerian but the offer did not meet Heracles' valuation of the striker.
Dessers went on to emerge as the joint-top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie for the recently cancelled season, something which would not have happened if he had been allowed to leave the club.
Following his outstanding performance, everything points to the fact that he will join a bigger team in the upcoming transfer window.
Explaining why the bid was turned down, Toussaint told Tubantia : "In that period we needed him desperately and the offer was not attractive enough.
"Without Dessers, our continuity might have been jeopardized. With today's science, everyone makes different choices, but that is afterwards."
Dessers has a good reputation in the Netherlands, having contributed to 92 goals (66 goals, 26 assists) in 125 matches since arriving the country in the 2016-2017 season.
