'They Play In A Similar Position' - Brazilian Pundit Likens Mikel To Manchester City Hero Toure
Published: May 02, 2020
TV Globo presenter Luis Roberto has likened former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel to Manchester City hero Yaya Toure, saying they play in a similar position.
The two African legends, who are currently free agents, have been linked with possible moves to Serie A side Botafogo and negotiations were at an advanced stage before the coronavirus outbreak.
Roberto reckons that Mikel and Toure would make a difference if they are signed by Botafogo.
In quotes carried by Fogaonet citing Canal do TF, Roberto stated : "Yaya Touré found a lot of freshness.
"I broadcast Mikel's spectacular games, they play in a similar position, Mikel played further back in the last World Cup.
"Yaya doesn't know if he wants to live in Brazil, that's fine, but ... Anyway, one or the other, or even both, it would be really cool for Botafogo.
"They would add a lot and elevate the game of Botafogo to think about big things, like a place in the Libertadores and even a title".
Mikel is on the lookout for a new club after mutually terminating his contract with Turkish Super Lig table-toppers Trabzonspor in March, roughly one year before the agreement between club and player was due to run out.
