Arsenal Defender Olowu Says It's Up To Saka To Decide International Future; Hails 'Hungry' Martinelli
Published: May 09, 2020
Arsenal starlet Joseph Olowu dreams of playing for the Super Eagles, having committed his international future to the three-time African champions.
The Ibadan-born central defender was in contention to make his debut for the Dream Team in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan but coach Imama Amapakabo was forced to scratch him from his plans because he didn't have a valid passport.
The international future of Bukayo Saka continues to dominate the back pages in Nigeria and Olowu has indicated that he won't go out of his way to convince the fellow Hale End Academy product to choose Nigeria over his country of birth, England.
Asked if he had spoken to Saka about committing his future to the Super Eagles, Olowu said in an Instagram conversation with Eagles Tracker : "Me and Bukayo we have not really had that conversation on committing his future to Nigeria, I'm sure that's for him to decide on his own."
Gabriel Martinelli has been counted among the hottest teenagers in world football at the moment following a string of fine displays for Arsenal before football activities were halted in England.
Having trained with Martinelli before the start of the 2019-2020 season, Olowu believes the Brazilian super kid is living up to the hype.
"Martinelli is a very, very good player. When he first came over and we trained with him early in pre-season, you could just tell this boy is hungry, he wanted to just play football.
"He is quick, he is strong, he is very committed, he is a very, very good player for sure."

Olowu was loaned out to League Of Ireland Premier Division club Cork City in the winter transfer market and was named the club's Player of the Month for February 2020.
