Super Eagles Star Balogun Says He Admires Kanu But Rates Okocha Higher Than Arsenal Legend
Published: May 10, 2020
Brighton & Hove's Nigeria international Leon Balogun believes Austin Jay-Jay Okocha was a better footballer than Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu.
When it comes to trophies won at international level, Okocha shades it having lifted the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles in 1994, while Kanu was more successful at club level and has more individual accolades, including two African Footballer of the Year awards.
Given his German roots, it came as no surprise that Balogun picked the former Borussia Neunkirchen and Eintracht Frankfurt playmaker over the former Gunners number 25.
"I always admired Kanu, you know he is very tall, very lanky and that's technical, it is not easy," said Balogun in an Instagram conversation with the Super Eagles Media Team.
"Even though I picked Jay-Jay, Kanu definitely deserves a lot of respect because he has been through a lot, also physically.
"For me one of the greatest in the history of Nigerian football".

Okocha and Kanu were in the Super Eagles team that finished second at the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations and won bronze medals at three consecutive AFCONs in 2002, 2004 and 2006.
